Historic Fairport Venue Offers Modern Amenities for Gatherings and Celebrations

Residents in Fairport have a new option for hosting private events with the recent reopening of the Lion’s Den at Potter Park. Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna recently announced this historic two-level building, formerly a Teen Center, is now available to rent through the Perinton Recreation and Parks Department.

Spacious and Versatile Event Space

Located at 53 West Church Street in Fairport, the Lion’s Den features over 4,800 square feet of flexible event space split evenly across two levels, each measuring approximately 60×40 feet. With room for up to 40 guests, this facility is ideal for:

  • Graduation parties
  • Birthday celebrations
  • Social gatherings
  • Business meetings

The building is available for private rental Friday through Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. However, availability excludes Fridays during summer camp weeks.

Rich Community History

The Lion’s Den originally opened in 1990, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Fairport Lions Club. The club raised more than $175,000 in local donations and grants, in collaboration with the Town of Perinton, to create this community space. Initially serving as a Teen Center, activities formerly held at the Lion’s Den have transitioned to the Perinton Community Center (PCC), enhancing programming for local youth.

Potter Park Offers Additional Community Attractions

Potter Park, which is owned by the Village of Fairport and operated by the Town of Perinton, continues to be a popular spot for locals. Beyond the Lion’s Den, the park features:

Fairport News-Central Park West will be expanding to include a Music Themed Playground to Open in 2025

Fairport residents have something exciting to look forward to as Perinton Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna and Recreation & Parks Commissioner Jeff Nutting recently announced detailed plans for a new music-themed playground at Center Park West. Scheduled to open in 2025, this project represents the second phase of the Town’s comprehensive 5-Year Playground Revitalization Plan.

Central Park West is located at 1100 Ayrault Rd, Fairport, NY 14450 it is accessed from Ayrault Road and consists of approximately 49 acres adjacent to the Perinton Community Center 

Replacing and Enhancing Aging Playground Structures

The upcoming playground aims to replace the current structures, originally installed in 2001, providing significant improvements in accessibility and inclusivity. Designed specifically for children aged 2 to 12 and older, the playground’s theme will complement the nearby Perinton Amphitheater. Additionally, the playground will be conveniently relocated closer to the parking lot, restrooms, and picnic pavilion, ensuring easier access for all visitors.

According to Supervisor Ciaran Hanna, community involvement was crucial in shaping the design of the playground:

Skatepark at Perinton Park with Modern Amenities

Fairport residents have a new Skatepark at Perinton Park to enjoy. Perinton Skatepark, a community enhancement offering recreation and accessibility improvements.

Comprehensive Community Project

The project, located at Perinton Park, encompasses extensive improvements beyond just the skatepark. These upgrades include:

  • ADA-compliant sidewalks
  • Expanded parking facilities
  • Improved lighting and landscaping
  • Enhanced pedestrian entrance from Route 31F

Skatepark Features and Design

The new Perinton Skatepark is situated on a previously underutilized 13,500-square-foot area within Perinton Park. It features:

  • A main skate plaza
  • Unique pump track
  • Quarter pipes, grind rails, and a bowl section
  • Shade structures, benches, and picnic tables
  • Adequate lighting for safety and nighttime use

The design caters to both beginner and experienced skaters, ensuring that everyone in the community can safely enjoy this recreational space.

A Community Vision Realized

First announced in August 2022, this $2.7 million initiative gathered substantial community input through surveys and public meetings. Construction commenced in July 2023 under Rochester Earth, Inc., with design consultation provided by Spohn Ranch.

“This skatepark will be an invaluable asset to our community, providing a safe space for skaters, skateboarders, and bikers to practice and play. I was thrilled to secure the grant funding needed to ensure the park includes essential amenities, making it welcoming to residents and visitors alike.”

The Perinton Skatepark, situated at 99 O’Connor Road, Fairport, NY 14450, is located within the expansive 43.6-acre Perinton Park. The park offers direct access to the Erie Canal and the Canalway Trail, conveniently accessible to pedestrians from Fairport Village.

Managed by the Town of Perinton Department of Recreation & Parks, the skatepark will be operational year-round, following the daily park hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Annual Fairport Canal Days are back, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! June 1 to June 2, 2024, for a weekend packed with festivities in the beautiful village of Fairport, NY, nestled along the historic Erie Canal.

Festival Highlights

As one of the Northeast’s premier juried art festivals, Fairport Canal Days, produced by the Fairport Perinton Merchants Association, offers a unique blend of art, food, music, and fun. Here’s what’s in store:

Artisans and Crafts

Browse through a lively marketplace featuring over 200 artisans. From exquisite jewelry to stunning artwork, you’ll find unique pieces to admire and purchase. Support our local artists and take home a special memento.

Delectable Food

Indulge in a variety of food options, from traditional festival treats like funnel cakes to gourmet offerings from local vendors. Don’t miss out on the delicious selections from our food trucks!

Live Entertainment

For over a decade, Fairport Canal Days has been the “jazz festival before the Jazz Festival,” showcasing the best jazz musicians and a variety of talented performers from the Rochester area. Enjoy live music across five stages, with over 60 groups performing.

Directions to Canal Days

Fairport is located along the Erie Canal in eastern Monroe County, about five miles east of Rochester, NY.

From NYS Thruway: Take I90 (NYS Thruway) to Exit 45 (Victor). Turn right (north) on Route 96. After passing Eastview Mall and other stores on your left, turn right on 250 North. Follow 250 North all the way to Church Street and you will be in Fairport.

From Rochester via 490: Take 490 east to exit 25 (Fairport Road/Route 31F) and continue east on Fairport Road. This road will take you directly to Fairport.
