What to Expect at the Whoville Experience
The event transforms the Community Center into a Whoville-inspired setting where children can enjoy a snack while meeting the famous character from Dr. Seuss’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” The program is designed to create a memorable holiday experience for young attendees while maintaining an age-appropriate, friendly atmosphere.
According to the event description, organizers promise the Grinch will “behave his best,” making this an ideal first character meet-and-greet for younger children who might be intimidated by more rambunctious holiday events.
Why This Matters to Local Families
Holiday character events provide families with affordable, structured activities during the busy December season. For less than the cost of a movie ticket, Perinton residents can give their children a unique holiday memory without traveling far from home.
The Perinton Recreation Department consistently offers quality family programming throughout the year, and this event continues that tradition during the holiday season.
Community Center Remains Open Despite Recent Challenges
The Community Center is operating normally and all programs are proceeding as scheduled, despite recent power outages that affected the area. Families can attend the Grinch event with confidence that facilities will be fully operational.

Free Transportation and Parking
Organizers have addressed one of the biggest concerns for holiday shoppers: convenience. A free shuttle service will circulate throughout Fairport Village, allowing participants to visit multiple locations without worrying about parking or walking in winter weather. Free public parking will be available for those who prefer to drive themselves.
Store Specials and Prizes
Each participating business will offer exclusive deals and promotions during the four-hour event window. Shoppers can also enter to win prizes, though specific prize details have not been disclosed publicly. The combination of special offers and prize opportunities creates additional incentives for residents to explore local retailers.
Refreshments Throughout the Evening
The “Sip” portion of Sip & Shop lives up to its name, with refreshments available as shoppers browse. This element transforms the event from a simple shopping excursion into a social occasion, encouraging community members to connect while supporting local businesses.
Community Impact and Local Shopping Benefits
Supporting Small Business
The Holiday Sip & Shop event highlights Fairport’s commitment to its local business community. Small, independent retailers face increasing competition from online shopping and big-box stores, particularly during the holiday season. Community events like this one help level the playing field by drawing attention to unique products and personalized service that local shops provide.
Building Fairport Community Connections
Beyond economic benefits, the event strengthens social bonds within Fairport. Neighbors encounter each other while shopping, creating opportunities for conversation and relationship-building. The festive atmosphere contributes to a sense of place and shared experience that defines tight-knit communities.
How to Participate
Residents interested in attending the Fairport Holiday Sip & Shop can find additional information by scanning the QR code on promotional materials or visiting FindItInFairport.com. The website provides details about participating merchants, special offers, and shuttle routes.
The “Shop & Love Local” initiative, which organizes the event, encourages community members to arrive early, as some businesses may have limited quantities of sale items or special products.
Planning Your Visit
With more than 20 participating locations spread across Fairport Village and surrounding areas, shoppers may want to prioritize their stops. The free shuttle service makes it possible to visit multiple areas without rushing, but the four-hour time window may not allow for leisurely browsing at every location.
Residents might consider creating a shopping strategy based on their interests—whether that’s home décor, fashion, specialty foods, or handmade crafts. The diverse range of merchants ensures that every shopper will find something appealing.
Event History and Growth
This marks the third year for the Fairport Holiday Sip & Shop, indicating steady growth and community support since its inception. The expanding roster of participating businesses suggests that merchants view the event as valuable for customer engagement and sales.
As the event enters its third year, organizers and participants have refined the format based on previous experience, potentially leading to an even smoother and more enjoyable experience for 2024 attendees.

Thomas Creek Bridge Replacement Project Set for November Completion in the Village of Fairport
Major Infrastructure Update Shows Accelerated Progress on North Main Street
FAIRPORT, NY – Local residents and businesses can mark their calendars for mid-November as the Thomas Creek Bridge Replacement Project approaches its anticipated completion date. According to the latest update from the Village of Fairport, the New York State Department of Transportation project is now expected to reach substantial completion on November 15, 2025.
Construction Timeline and Current Status
The bridge replacement project, which began on April 14, 2025, has shown significant acceleration in recent weeks. The infrastructure work has progressed substantially, with key milestones already achieved.
What’s Been Accomplished
The construction team has made notable advances on the bridge structure:
Bridge supports are fully installed and in place
Decking installation is actively progressing
Work pace has accelerated beyond initial projections
Some finishing work will likely continue past the November 15th target date
Village officials have indicated that while November 15th represents the substantial completion milestone, minor finishing touches may extend slightly beyond that date to properly close out the project.
Road Closures and Detour Information
Affected Areas
North Main Street remains closed to vehicular traffic in a specific section of the village. The closure impacts the area between Railroad Street and the North Main Street and Cannery Parking areas.
Official Detour Routes
Motorists navigating around the construction zone should follow the posted detour route:
High Street
Turk Hill Road
East Church Street
Vehicle detour signs have been posted throughout the affected area to guide drivers around the construction zone.
What Remains Open During Construction
Parking and Business Access
Despite the road closure, several important access points remain available to residents and visitors:
Railroad Street is open with access available from North Main Street
North Main Street parking area remains accessible
Cannery Parking area continues to operate normally
Pedestrian and Customer Access
Foot traffic hasn’t been completely restricted during the construction period. Pedestrians can still navigate the area using designated pathways:
East side of Main Street maintains pedestrian access
Direct access to Mac’s Philly Steaks remains available for customers
This ensures that businesses in the immediate construction zone can continue serving their customers throughout the project duration.
Project Background
State-Led Infrastructure Initiative
The Thomas Creek Bridge Replacement Project represents a collaborative effort between the Village of Fairport and the New York State Department of Transportation. As a state-run project, the DOT has managed the planning, execution, and oversight of the bridge replacement.
Why This Project Matters
The bridge replacement addresses aging infrastructure needs and ensures the long-term safety and functionality of this critical transportation corridor through the village. North Main Street serves as a vital artery for local traffic and business access in Fairport.
What Residents Should Know
As the project enters its final weeks, here are key points for Fairport residents and visitors:
Plan your routes: Continue using the official detour until the November 15th completion date
Support local businesses: Remember that parking and pedestrian access remain available
Stay informed: Watch for updates from the Village about the exact reopening date and celebration details
Exercise patience: Some finishing work may continue briefly after the substantial completion date
Looking Ahead
The completion of the Thomas Creek Bridge Replacement Project will mark a significant milestone for Fairport’s infrastructure. The new bridge will serve the community for decades to come, providing safe and reliable passage over Thomas Creek for residents, visitors, and local businesses.
Business owners and residents along the North Main Street corridor are eagerly anticipating the reopening of this important route, which will restore normal traffic patterns and improve accessibility throughout the village center.

As the seasons change, Perinton Town Hall continues its commitment to serving the community, and we, as fellow residents and local business owners, want to keep you informed. Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna recently shared a fall update highlighting ongoing projects and future plans that impact all of us. Here’s a closer look at the key initiatives.
Perinton’s Commitment to Infrastructure and Public Safety
A significant focus of the town’s efforts has been on improving local infrastructure and enhancing public safety. These investments are designed to benefit residents and ensure the community remains a safe and well-maintained place to live.
Major Upgrades and Projects
The Town of Perinton has been actively working on several key projects, with a strong emphasis on fiscal responsibility.
Fellows Road Park: A $1.5 million upgrade is underway, which includes new drainage systems, an improved parking lot, and EV charging stations. This project aims to extend the sports seasons and improve accessibility.
Perinton Public Works (DPW): The DPW has been instrumental in keeping costs down. “With Perinton Public Works (DPW) completing much of the work, we saved about $160,000 in taxpayer dollars,” Hanna noted in the update.
Road Rehabilitation: By the end of the year, the DPW will have completed 4.5 miles of road rehabilitation, 18 miles of preventative maintenance, and 15,000 feet of concrete gutter replacement.
Capital Improvements: Plans are in place for future sidewalk expansions, sewer relining, and drainage upgrades.
Enhancing Safety and Security
Since its launch in 2021, the Perinton Safety & Security Department has been working to protect residents. The team, led by Director John Overacker, works in collaboration with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
“Their quick action during a recent incident on the Indian Hill Trail led to a safe outcome and highlighted the importance of this department,” the update stated. In response, the town is enhancing signage, lighting, and monitoring on trails and in parks.
Programs for Families and Seniors
Perinton is expanding its programs to support residents of all ages, with a particular focus on affordable community events.
Budget-Friendly Community Events
“Free or $5” Initiative: Thanks to revenue from summer concerts and local sponsorships, this new program offers events for families at little to no cost, providing a budget-friendly way to bring the community together.
Perinton Community Center: This center remains a hub of activity, with a strong 55+ program offering activities like group hikes, game nights, and the popular curbside lunch program.
Investing in Outdoor Spaces
The town continues to invest in its parks and natural spaces. The new Center Park West inclusive playground, designed with resident input, has recently opened, and courts at Potter Park have been resurfaced.
Planning for a Sustainable and Affordable Future
Supervisor Hanna emphasized that keeping Perinton affordable is a top priority as his team works on the 2026 Town Budget. The town’s low and stable tax rate, which is among the lowest in Monroe County, is a key focus.
H4: Celebrating Our Small Businesses
The update also recognized the vital role of local small businesses in the community, calling them “the people and places that give our town character.” The supervisor encouraged residents to “shop small, recommend local, and recognize the businesses that help Perinton flourish.”
Parker Place is proud to be a part of this wonderful community.
Historic Fairport Venue Offers Modern Amenities for Gatherings and Celebrations
Residents in Fairport have a new option for hosting private events with the recent reopening of the Lion’s Den at Potter Park. Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna recently announced this historic two-level building, formerly a Teen Center, is now available to rent through the Perinton Recreation and Parks Department.
Spacious and Versatile Event Space
Located at 53 West Church Street in Fairport, the Lion’s Den features over 4,800 square feet of flexible event space split evenly across two levels, each measuring approximately 60×40 feet. With room for up to 40 guests, this facility is ideal for:
Graduation parties
Birthday celebrations
Social gatherings
Business meetings
The building is available for private rental Friday through Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. However, availability excludes Fridays during summer camp weeks.
Rental Costs
Perinton Residents: $189/day
Non-Residents: $210/day
Reservations can be easily booked online.
Modern Amenities in a Historic Setting
The Lion’s Den combines modern comfort with its historic charm through recent upgrades:
Renovated kitchen with refrigerator, oven, and microwave
Enhanced acoustics and new sound improvements
Fresh paint, updated flooring, and trim
Climate-controlled with heating and air conditioning
Private restrooms for convenience
WiFi access throughout
Tables and chairs for up to 40 guests
Comfortable lounge seating with sofas
Entertainment options, including air hockey, pool tables, foosball, and ping pong
Supervisor Ciaran Hanna praised the venue, stating, “Opening the Lion’s Den for rentals allows us to bring a wonderful community resource to a wider audience. This building has a rich history, and with recent improvements, it is now an even more welcoming and functional venue. Whether for celebrations, meetings, or small gatherings, the Lion’s Den is a valuable addition to our town’s recreational offerings.”
Rich Community History
The Lion’s Den originally opened in 1990, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Fairport Lions Club. The club raised more than $175,000 in local donations and grants, in collaboration with the Town of Perinton, to create this community space.
