As the seasons change, Perinton Town Hall continues its commitment to serving the community, and we, as fellow residents and local business owners, want to keep you informed. Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna recently shared a fall update highlighting ongoing projects and future plans that impact all of us. Here’s a closer look at the key initiatives.
Perinton’s Commitment to Infrastructure and Public Safety
A significant focus of the town’s efforts has been on improving local infrastructure and enhancing public safety. These investments are designed to benefit residents and ensure the community remains a safe and well-maintained place to live.
Major Upgrades and Projects
The Town of Perinton has been actively working on several key projects, with a strong emphasis on fiscal responsibility.
Fellows Road Park: A $1.5 million upgrade is underway, which includes new drainage systems, an improved parking lot, and EV charging stations. This project aims to extend the sports seasons and improve accessibility.
Perinton Public Works (DPW): The DPW has been instrumental in keeping costs down. “With Perinton Public Works (DPW) completing much of the work, we saved about $160,000 in taxpayer dollars,” Hanna noted in the update.
Road Rehabilitation: By the end of the year, the DPW will have completed 4.5 miles of road rehabilitation, 18 miles of preventative maintenance, and 15,000 feet of concrete gutter replacement.
Capital Improvements: Plans are in place for future sidewalk expansions, sewer relining, and drainage upgrades.
Enhancing Safety and Security
Since its launch in 2021, the Perinton Safety & Security Department has been working to protect residents. The team, led by Director John Overacker, works in collaboration with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
“Their quick action during a recent incident on the Indian Hill Trail led to a safe outcome and highlighted the importance of this department,” the update stated. In response, the town is enhancing signage, lighting, and monitoring on trails and in parks.
Programs for Families and Seniors
Perinton is expanding its programs to support residents of all ages, with a particular focus on affordable community events.
Budget-Friendly Community Events
“Free or $5” Initiative: Thanks to revenue from summer concerts and local sponsorships, this new program offers events for families at little to no cost, providing a budget-friendly way to bring the community together.
Perinton Community Center: This center remains a hub of activity, with a strong 55+ program offering activities like group hikes, game nights, and the popular curbside lunch program.
Investing in Outdoor Spaces
The town continues to invest in its parks and natural spaces. The new Center Park West inclusive playground, designed with resident input, has recently opened, and courts at Potter Park have been resurfaced.
Planning for a Sustainable and Affordable Future
Supervisor Hanna emphasized that keeping Perinton affordable is a top priority as his team works on the 2026 Town Budget. The town’s low and stable tax rate, which is among the lowest in Monroe County, is a key focus.
H4: Celebrating Our Small Businesses
The update also recognized the vital role of local small businesses in the community, calling them “the people and places that give our town character.” The supervisor encouraged residents to “shop small, recommend local, and recognize the businesses that help Perinton flourish.”

Fairport residents have a new Skatepark at Perinton Park to enjoy. Perinton Skatepark, a community enhancement offering recreation and accessibility improvements.
Comprehensive Community Project
The project, located at Perinton Park, encompasses extensive improvements beyond just the skatepark. These upgrades include:
ADA-compliant sidewalks
Expanded parking facilities
Improved lighting and landscaping
Enhanced pedestrian entrance from Route 31F
Skatepark Features and Design
The new Perinton Skatepark is situated on a previously underutilized 13,500-square-foot area within Perinton Park. It features:
A main skate plaza
Unique pump track
Quarter pipes, grind rails, and a bowl section
Shade structures, benches, and picnic tables
Adequate lighting for safety and nighttime use
The design caters to both beginner and experienced skaters, ensuring that everyone in the community can safely enjoy this recreational space.
A Community Vision Realized
First announced in August 2022, this $2.7 million initiative gathered substantial community input through surveys and public meetings. Construction commenced in July 2023 under Rochester Earth, Inc., with design consultation provided by Spohn Ranch.
Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna expressed enthusiasm about the project’s completion:
“I’m thrilled for kids, families, and adults to begin enjoying this new community resource in the Town of Perinton. The Perinton Skatepark and park improvements reflect the town’s commitment to creating spaces where families and individuals can stay active and foster a strong sense of community. This project is a shining example of what can be achieved when our community unites with a shared vision.”
Significant Financial Support
Assemblymember Jen Lunsford secured a $1.5 million state grant toward the project’s development. Additional funding was sourced from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and local tax dollars.
Assemblymember Lunsford highlighted the value of the skatepark:
“This skatepark will be an invaluable asset to our community, providing a safe space for skaters, skateboarders, and bikers to practice and play. I was thrilled to secure the grant funding needed to ensure the park includes essential amenities, making it welcoming to residents and visitors alike.”

Convenient Location and Accessibility
The Perinton Skatepark, situated at 99 O’Connor Road, Fairport, NY 14450, is located within the expansive 43.6-acre Perinton Park. The park offers direct access to the Erie Canal and the Canalway Trail, conveniently accessible to pedestrians from Fairport Village.
Managed by the Town of Perinton Department of Recreation & Parks, the skatepark will be operational year-round, following the daily park hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
